Introduction:
The holy Quran suggests that semen fluid proceeds from between the backbone and ribs. How it's possible and what its true interpretation is? The Quran is full of wonders but when it's understood deeply and correctly.

The apparent meaning of this verse doesn't suggest anything until we go deep inside this verse and try to explore the real meaning and interpretation by other verses similar to it. This is called the interpretation of the Quran from the Quran. Islamophobic websites have been quoting these verses for centuries as a scientific error but actually, the error is in their mind which is the misguidance they received. The Holy Quran clearly says :
Quran 3:7: He is the One Who has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book, of which some verses are precise—they are the foundation of the Book—while others are elusive. Those with deviant hearts follow the elusive verses seeking ˹to spread˺ doubt through their ˹false˺ interpretations—but none grasps their ˹full˺ meaning except Allah. As for those well-grounded in knowledge, they say, “We believe in this ˹Quran˺—it is all from our Lord.” But none will be mindful ˹of this˺ except people of reason. ( The Clear Quran Translation By Mustafa Khattab)
This verse interpretation is commonly thought to be talking about the "Muqatta'at" or "disjoined letters" which are mysterious words of the Quran like Ta Ha, Ya Seen, etc. Besides this, there's also another meaning to this verse that some verses of the Quran apparently seem contradictory or not authentic but when a person with well-grounded knowledge reads these verses he surely testifies that these are the verses of Allah. This is how God misguides disobedient people and God only misguides those who are not obedient to him and they also don't want to be obedient and Allah surely doesn't like such arrogant people.
The Miracles Of the Quran :
Linguistic Miracles : The holy Quran is the book which always remained a miracle for the people. Like in the age of poetry, there was no book comparable to the Quran. The Quranic language proved to be superior to classic Arabic and the modern Arabic derived from the Quranic Arabic and style. The eloquence of the Quran is beyond human capacity to produce such work. On the linguistic miracle of the Quran, many books have been written. Like in the tafseer of marif UL Quran by Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi, some of the names of the few books are mentioned in his tafseer work of Quran 2:23:
Nazm نظم al-Qur'an by al-Jahiz, written in the 3rd century A.H.; 'I'jaz al-Qur'an' by Abu 'Abdullah Wasiti, written early in the 4th century; a small book, اعجاز 'I'jaz al-Qur'an' by Ibn 'Isa Rabbani, written later in the 4th century; a long and comprehensive book, اعجاز 'I'jaz al-Qur'an' by Qadi Abu Bakr Bagillani, written early in the 5th century; the subject has also been discussed at length in well-known books like Al-Itqan' by Jalal al-Din al-Suyati, 'Al-Khasa'is al-Kubra' by the same author, 'At-Tafsir al-Kabir' by Imam Razi, and 'Ash-Shifa' by Qadi 'Iyad; more recently still, اعجاز 'I'jaz al-Qur'an', by Mustafa Sadiq al-Rafi'i', and 'Al-Wahy al-Muhammadi' by Sayyid Rashid Rid-a; and finally 'I'jaz al-Qur'an' by Shabbir Ahmad Uthmani. Besides these, there are several books written only on the linguistic Miracles of the Quran.
Historical Miracles: The Quran has been proven to be a masterpiece of historical information. All historical Accurate information goes hand in hand with the holy Quran. Several historical records were found later but they were written in the holy Quran. For example, the Egyptian language was a dead language at the time of the Prophet Muhammad but the Quran revealed much information about Egyptian pharaohs, their worshipped gods, and many other things. When the Egyptian language was finally decoded by the discovery of the Rosetta Stone in 1799 it revolutionized our understanding of Egypt. We started understanding the Egyptian hieroglyphs and their entire language and here came the wonders of the Quran whose information was written 1400 years ago in the holy Quran as proven by the Egyptian historical Records. Besides this, there are several other historical Accurate information in the Quran.
Scientific Miracles: Now we come to the scientific miracles of the Quran. The Qur'an is the only unique scripture that contains scientific verses way before the age of science. At the time of the Prophet Muhammad, there were many assumptions and Myths and they were mostly inaccurate and Quran proved to be the only book that is consistent with established scientific proofs of science. Quran mentions a lot of things about embryology from human sperm to human baby Quran mentions each detail by which a human passes. There were many philosophers at the time of the Prophet Muhammad but they were all very inaccurate and full of myths about embryology.
- For example, Aristotle said in the book of animals. The semen flows down on women's menstrual blood - which is stored in her womb - and it congeals this blood. (Which is wrong the menstrual blood stops when a woman gets pregnant)
- Galen, the father of medicine at that time, said that the woman's liquid feeds the man's liquid. After the semen is fed to the woman's body, there is a very tiny embryo in the man's semen (Which is wrong because an embryo gets nutrients from the blood not from the egg. )
Quran 76:2: ˹For˺ indeed, We ˹alone˺ created humans from a drop of mixed fluids, ˹in order˺ to test them, so We made them hear and see. (The Clear Quran Translation By Mustafa Khattab)
And the commentary of this verse by Mustafa khattab reads as: The mixture of male and female gametes (sperm and egg) forms the zygote after fertilization. See how the Quran is only saying things accurately and Aristotle and Galen made just a bunch of myths and blunders and not the holy Quran.
- Aristotle mentions that the brain is like a radiator that cools the blood. But the Quran relates the front part of the brain with thinking and which is used to control actions. And also when it says Allah is closer to human thoughts than the jugular vein. It's the vein of the brain where thoughts and processed and god is even closer to it.
- Aristotle also mentions that when a worm grows it becomes a snake.
- Hippocrates the father of medicine thought that the embryo is formed as a result of moisture heat and fire.
They thought that the embryo was a piece of meat that heats up and becomes bones but the Quran mentions that God makes flesh and bones inside the embryo which again proves the Quran is Accurate and their blunders. Besides this, there are several other miracles of the Quran in embryology that are uniquely quoted by the Quran with the understanding of modern embryology.
Explanation of The Backbone And Ribs:
To understand the verse about the backbone and ribs we have to understand the verse about milk production. God Almighty Says in the Quran:
Quran 16:66: And there is certainly a lesson for you in cattle: We give you to drink of what is in their bellies, from between digested food and blood: pure milk, pleasant to drink. ( The Clear Quran Translation By Mustafa Khattab)
In this verse Quran accurately mentions the process of milk production. First, let's understand how milk production works in cattle.
Explaination For Milk Production:
There are 4 compartments in the cow's stomach: the reticulum, the rumen, the omasum, and the abomasum. When a cow eats food it goes to all 4 stomachs where it's broken down into smaller pieces or where the food is digested and at last it goes to the small intestine. Here the hydrochloric acid breaks the food into small parts. Like hydrochloric acid changes the pepsinogen to pepsin and it breaks down protein to short compounds like peptides and amino acids. Then these smaller parts of food or we say nutrients get absorbed into the bloodstream. Here the finger-like structures called villi help to get food nutrients inside the bloodstream. We can say that in the small intestine, the digested food nutrients are absorbed into the blood. The blood then carries these nutrients towards the udder where milk is produced. The udder filters the blood and takes nutrients from it which then form milk. Overall milk comes after passing through between digestive system and into the blood. However, it doesn't mean milk as the result product comes from between digested food and blood rather the milk as nutrients come from digested food and blood and these nutrients get assembled into milk. We can say milk is in the form of assembled nutrients.
So Quran is accurate and correct when it says milk comes in the bellies of the cattle and after passing through the digestive system and blood because this is how the nutrient absorption system works. Watch video here
Backbone and ribs Explaination:
Quran 86:5-7: Let people then consider what they were created from! ˹They were˺ created from a spurting fluid, stemming from between the backbone and the ribcage.
Now let's come to second verse about the backbone and ribs. From previous verse we can understand what this verse could mean. Even the same words are used in both verses. Both of them say مِنۢ بَيْنِ ( from between) so there should be a connection between these verses .
Now we have to understand how the sperm are Produced. The production of semen or sperm is quite similar to the production of milk. When a human eats food it goes to stomach where it's digested and at last it goes to the small intestine where the food is absorbed into blood as the nutrients. These nutrients then go towards testes by the blood arteries. The blood arteries transport these nutrients to the testes where sperm are made by spermatogenesis.
Overall we can say sperm or semen are created by the food that you eat because sperm or semen are in the form of assembled nutrients. And the nutrients work as building blocks to create sperm. Building blocks mean they are like bricks by which a building is made and every cell inside the human body is created and replaced by food nutrients. So Quran is accurate when it says semen proceeds from between the backbone and ribs because between the backbone and ribs is the digestive system where the nutrients of semen are processed. Someone might say semen doesn't come from the backbone and ribs but these are nutrients of semen. The Quran also refers to nutrients of semen not the result product of semen like the verse on milk production Quran says milk comes from digested food and blood but actually they are nutrients that come from the digestive system not the result product. So the semen as nutrients come from between the backbone and ribs not as a result product. The Holy Quran accurately mentions the production of semen from the very start.
